- This flavor is one of the more intriguing concepts of late. We all love vanilla ice cream and honey is a sweetener that is sometimes substituted for sugar. I thought, "It's completely odd and obvious at the same time!" Posted all over the cute yellow and black striped container is Haagen-Dazs's plight to help save the honey bees; a great cause. (We'll have no fruit flavored ice creams without our honey bees!) There was not much of a smell, the color was French Vanilla-looking and the container was full to the top. The texture of this six-ingredient ice cream (that is good, folks) was smooth overall. The initial taste was vanilla and then came the super-pungent honey on the back end. (Did I mention pungent?) Interestingly, the ice cream was not overly sweet, as I had thought it would be. This was the kind of ice cream that could compliment my hot tea, but not serve as my ice cream.
- There's no mistaking Haagen-Dazs's "Vanilla Honey Bee" ice cream is all about bees. In fact, the container looks so much like a bee that I was surprised Kris didn't run to the other side of the room (she's kind of freaked out by them). I liked the short ingredient list (just six items) and the idea of helping save honey bees, but that's about where the positives ended for me. While the ice cream was full to the top, there wasn't much of a honey aroma when we opened the container. Taste after taste of the creamy Haagen-Dazs "Vanilla Honey Bee" ice cream left me yearning for more honey, more vanilla, or more something! It was just too subtle for me. Honestly, if someone had blindfolded me before this tasting, I would never have gotten to "honey" with this flavor. I would have come up with something more like "off-vanilla."
